- No Mythology for 'Undercovers,' Just Marriage - TCA Report
Filed under: TV News, Fall TV At first glance, J.J. Abrams' new NBC show 'Undercovers' sounds somewhat like 'Alias' -- if Sydney Bristow and Michael Vaughn had gotten married.
But executive producer Josh Reims told TV critics Friday that 'Undercovers' won't be 'Alias: Five Years Later.'
"Don't tell J.J., but I never really watched 'Alias,'" Reims said. "Neither one of us wanted to do 'Alias' -- he'd already done it ... and I thought it was one of the most confusing shows ever."
So, don't expect any Rambaldi-esque mythology in 'Undercovers,' but there will be more glamor and globe-trotting -- and sexy, witty banter between leads Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who play married spies Steven and Samantha Bloom.
Reims, Kodjoe and Mbatha-Raw were joined by producer Carther MacIntyre and cast members Gerald McRaney, Ben Schwartz and Mekia Cox. See what they had to say about the show, after the jump ... Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

- SomethingPitchy Backstage With the Idols: Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox (VIDEO)
Filed under: Celebrity Interviews We weren't exactly the biggest Lee DeWyze fans during this past season of 'American Idol,' but we'll admit that after we interviewed him last week, we're ready to call him our new BFF.
As you'll see after the jump, the interview turned out to be, as Lee might put it, amazing. (Though, as he told us, he's ready to pick a new favorite word.)
In this special SomethingPitchy interview, watch as the season 9 champ dishes on getting new tattoos, what it's like to be the star of the 'American Idol' tour and what his new album is going to sound like. (Get ready for lots of polka!)
Then, stick around for SP's favorite girl Crystal Bowersox, who told Gaby about her son's cute mispronunciations, her budding romance with TV host Jimmy Kimmel (not!) and her thoughts on the new Janis Joplin biopic. (How was she not cast, Hollywood?!)

Like that great TV philosopher, Tracy Jordan, advised his co-worker pal Kenneth, we should all live every week like it's Shark Week.
Fortunately, this week -- starting Sunday night -- actually is Shark Week, Discovery Channel's annual lineup of programming dedicated to the sea dog (as sharks were known until the 16th century).
This year's Shark Week, the network's 23rd such celebration, kicks off with a new special called 'Ultimate Air Sharks' (Sunday, 9PM) and will be hosted by famous Shark Week devotee Craig Ferguson. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

- 'American Idol' Rumors: Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler to Replace Ellen DeGeneres?
Filed under: TV News Ellen DeGeneres' abrupt resignation from 'American Idol' yesterday looks like only the beginning of a period of upheaval at the judges' table. By the time the dust settles, Kara DioGuardi may be gone as well -- and those three vacancies (the third coming from Simon Cowell's long-planned departure) may be filled by only two judges. And one of them will almost certainly be Jennifer Lopez.
Confused? Here's a roundup of all the 'Idol' news that's broken over the last half-day or so since Ellen DeGeneres' announcement. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

- 'Futurama' - 'The Late Philip J. Fry' Recap
Filed under: Recaps (S06E07) "This seems like a nice future. Let's just stay here. We can settle down on that mountain of skulls." - Bender
Anyone who has ever said that the new 'Futurama' episodes could never live up to the epic awesomeness of their seasonal predecessors can officially (according to the National Endowment for the Bureau of Determining Who Can Suck It) suck it.
Last night's time-tripping paradox through the ends and beginnings of time and back again had everything that make a 'Futurama' episode great: lots of heart, deep and complicated plots and jokes that don't suck.
It also finally addressed the slowly building love affair between Fry and Leela, something that felt like it should have been doing from day one (more like day 1.3). The wait, however, has been worth it. Instead of rushing into the relationship like so many cheap prom dates, its absence helps build the tension to a nice simmer in order to present the very sweet and silly story I was treated to last night. - Matthew Fox, Jimmy Kimmel Find Extra 'Lost' Secret in DVD Box Set (VIDEO)
Filed under: TV Replay We haven't seen Jimmy Kimmel this excited in a long time. Matthew Fox dropped by 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC), and the two dug through the giant 'Lost' DVD box set.
"There's all kinds of crazy secrets inside this thing," explained Fox. "It's like a puzzle and you have to go through it, and clues lead to other clues. And then you find secret discs and secret scenes."
Kimmel and Fox found a map, the game that Jacob and the Man in Black played, a letter and a tiny black-light for certain clues. "Also good if you go to a motel, and you wanta check out the sheets," offered Kimmel helpfully.
The host then pulled out a magazine ad featuring a youthful Fox as a preppy JC Penney model. Hidden secrets indeed. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

- Paul Rudd Talks of Family's Surreal Ceremony for Late Father (VIDEO)
Filed under: TV Replay Paul Rudd has been to Ireland many times. His late father loved the country, so his remains are there. Sort of. Appearing on the 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), Rudd described the surreal experience of scattering his dad's ashes in Ireland.
Rudd's father had known a lighthouse keeper, so the family's intention was to scatter the ashes from the lighthouse. "We realized we had nothing to disperse them with," said Rudd. "So we went to a store and just got party cups ... [it] kinda added to the whole surreal [event]."
Upon finding they had ashes left over, they took the remainder to another of his favorite places. But this time, the Rudd family "'Lebowski'd" themselves in the process. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
